Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer in-person appointments?

I currently do not offer in-person appointments. My clients have found telehealth convenient and flexible, and scientific evidence indicates that telehealth is equally effective as health services in person. If you prefer meeting with a clinician in person, I can provide referrals for other providers in the area.

Do you accept insurance?

I am in network with most Aetna plans through Alma and Headway in North Carolina and Washington. You can obtain a cost estimate by entering your insurance information through these links: Alma and Headway. If your insurance plan is not accepted, I can provide a detailed invoice, also known as a super-bill, for you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

Additionally, you have the option to not use your insurance for services provided by Apex Psychology. Opting out of insurance may be preferred for reasons such as increased privacy and more control over mental health services. Insurance typically covers services they consider "medically necessary," which requires a mental health diagnosis. Your insurance company may review your diagnosis, treatment plans, and goals when deciding on service approval. Furthermore, some plans may limit the number of therapy sessions covered annually.

How do I get started?

You can start today by emailing me to ask any questions, discuss your needs, and request a free 15-minute consultation . If we are a good match based on what you are looking for, I will schedule an intake appointment with you and send you some paperwork to complete before our intake appointment. During the intake appointment, we will get to know each other and generate a plan for our work together.

How many sessions do I need?

The number of needed sessions varies greatly with each individual. Some influencing factors include the complexity of your concerns, your past experiences with therapy, the frequency of our meetings, and your treatment goals. Recent research indicates that on average 15 to 20 sessions are required for 50% of the people to improve, but you might need fewer or more than the average number of sessions.

How long is one session?

I offer two session lengths to best accommodate individual needs: 45-minute and 60-minute sessions. The 45-minute option is well-suited for individuals who may find it challenging to engage for a full hour, have fewer concerns to discuss, or require greater scheduling flexibility. The 60-minute sessions are ideal for those who need more time to delve deeper and have multiple concerns to address during our meetings. The choice between the two will depend on your personal preferences and requirements.

How frequently will we meet?

The frequency of our sessions will be tailored to your needs and can range from weekly to monthly. I generally begin therapy with weekly sessions to establish rapport and initiate therapeutic change, and we can adjust the frequency as needed over time.

How do I make the payment?

I process insurance and payment through Alma. An active card is required to be on file and any required fees are paid in full at the time of service. I accept all major credit, debit, FSA, and HSA cards.

If you don’t have insurance or are not using insurance, under the law, I need to give you an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

What is your cancellation policy?

To ensure that adequate time is set aside for your appointment, I kindly ask for a minimum of 24-hour notice (1 business day) for any rescheduling or cancellations. Should an appointment be canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice, a fee of $80 will be incurred. In the case of a missed appointment without any prior notice, the full fee for a 45-minute session ($180) will be charged.

How do I pronounce your name?

Phonetically, my name is pronounced You-yeh. It's like saying "you" and "yes" without pronouncing the s on "yes." If you're wondering what it means in Chinese, it means "rain leaf!"
